The Art of Ignoring

As much as Charlotte has changed over the past two-almost-three years, there are some things about her that have been just the same since day one (or day 40ish).

For instance, she’s always been really good at ignoring people, namely me. She has never been a big poser for the camera, and even as an unsuspecting babe, the more someone wants a picture of her, the more she seems to tune them out. Yes, I have so many good pictures of Charlotte, but there have been ten thousand more rejected shots: the deer in the headlight, the disinterested glare, the back of the head. All those and then some.

WHY ARE YOU TALKING IN SUCH A HIGH VOICE??? (2 months)

WHY ARE YOU TALKING IN SUCH A HIGH VOICE??? (2 months)

Really, Mom? Really?

Really, Mom? Really?

Where's Wald-- er, Charlotte?

Where’s Wald– er, Charlotte?

The adorable wide open-mouthed smiles and goofy grins that you typically see here on the blog are pretty much all candid — in other words, she was laughing or smiling about something because she wanted too, not because I asked her.

I don’t hold this against her (it’s a tough life being so admired), but dang! sometimes she really makes me work around here.

Good thing I’m obsessed with her and just keep clicking and clicking away. (Poor thing.) (But she’ll be very glad I do this one day.) (Right?)

Dear Charlotte,

You are supposed to wait at least another ten years before you start tuning out everything I say. And even then, I’d really advise against that.

Love, Your Beloved Mother
