Monkey Butt Meets Lederhosen

Today we spent the afternoon in the Amana Colonies with Ben, Christine, and Pat. For you out-of-towners who’ve never been, the Amana Colonies are a group of historic German settlements with (mostly) authentic little shops, restaurants, a winery and brewery, and wool mill. The biggest colony is about 20 minutes away from our house, and going there is a fun thing to do on a nice day.

After lunch at the Ox Yoke, the girls hit the shops while the boys hit the brewery. When we finished shopping, we met the guys at the brewery and listened to an old man dressed in lederhosen play his guitar and sing for all the beer drinkers. Immediately when we walked in with the stoller, he wanted to sing for Charlotte.

He really wanted Charlotte to smile for him, but she couldn’t get over his guitar…and that funny thing he was wearing on his head. Pretty soon she’ll have to learn that it’s rude to stare.

What is this guy wearing???

He sang a few songs just for her, but the one we all knew was “Edelweiss.” Remember The Sound of Music anyone? Well, here’s a link if you don’t.

Want to see some more of our photos from today? Okay, since you asked………(Oh, you didn’t ask? Well, too bad. I’m forcing you to look at them anyway.)

Here’s a picture of Charlotte’s monkey butt: (Because it’s cute.)

Here’s a stupid picture of us standing around my kitchen that Chris took when we got home:

Here are the Dorans outside the front of our house:

Yay! Grandpa's eyes are open!

Here’s Charlotte with her Great-Grandma Pat:

Happy baby, happy grandma.

And here’s Charlotte enjoying her first beer:

Glug glug glug.

It was a fun three-day weekend! Now we can’t wait until next weekend because Charlotte finally gets to meet her Great-Grandparents, Margaret and Carl! Hurray!
